Is this the right course?

SysML v1 or v2: which class to take

Take this course

Your program is moving to SysML v2

Your organization is adopting, piloting or evaluating SysML v2 and your engineers need to model in it, not just read about it.

Take this course

You know SysML v1

Every v1 concept you use has a v2 form. The course maps them as you go, so v1 modelers move fast.

Take SysML v1 instead

Your program models in v1 today

Most Cameo models on programs today are SysML v1. If that's the model you'll work in, start with SysML v1 Fundamentals.

New to SysML entirely? No v1 experience is required for this course.

How every module runs

Understand the why before you click

Each topic moves from the concept, to a worked example in Cameo, to a walkthrough of the lab and its purpose, and only then to your own hands on the model. By the time you build, you know why, so you can focus on the tool.

Lecture

Learn the concept

Where the step fits in MagicGrid, and the SysML v2 elements and notation behind it.

Demo

See it from another angle

The instructor shows the concept in Cameo through a different application of it, or a deep dive into one part of it, for a new perspective.

Lab overview

Know the why first

We walk through the lab's steps and the purpose of each one. Ask your why questions here, so in the lab you can focus on where to click.

Lab

Build it yourself

You add it to your own Robot Mower model on the cloud VM, following written or video instructions, whichever suits how you learn. The instructor is there to help.

Checkpoint

Compare and catch up

Compare your work with the checkpoint model, the finished lab, or load it to catch up and start the next lab with the class.

Course outline

Day by day: one model, 12 labs

We follow the MagicGrid method: problem domain first, then the solution. Each lab starts with the method, the SysML v2 language and the Cameo tool steps, then you build. Every lab ends with a checkpoint model, so no one falls behind.

Day 1

Foundations and the problem

  1. TALKCourse intro and MagicGridProblem and solution domains, black box and white box
  2. TALKSysML v1 to v2 thinkingModel vs view; blocks become part definitions
  3. TALKDefinitions and usagesThe core v2 pattern, in text and diagrams
  4. LAB 1Project setup and package structure
  5. LAB 2System context and use cases
  6. LAB 3Stakeholder needs and requirements
Day 2

  1. LAB 4Measures of effectivenessAttributes, quantities and SI units
  2. TALKBehavior in SysML v2Actions, successions, item flows
  3. LAB 5Functional analysis: Mow Lawn
  4. LAB 6Logical subsystemsPart decomposition and multiplicity
  5. LAB 7Subsystem interactionsHow the subsystems work together, and the interfaces that requires
Day 3

Interfaces and the solution

  1. LAB 8Functional interfacesPort definitions, directions, conjugation
  2. DEMOSubsystem measures of effectiveness
  3. TALKFrom problem to solutionLogical vs physical, allocation
  4. LAB 9Physical architectureSpecialization and redefinition
  5. DEMORemaining subsystems

What changes from v1

Your v1 vocabulary, in SysML v2

SysML v2 is a new language with a textual notation, not a new set of diagrams. Most of what you know carries over under a new name. This is the map we teach from on day one.

What you get

A live instructor

Taught by practitioners with 4+ years of MBSE teaching and real program experience. Questions answered as you build.

Cameo in a cloud lab

Cameo 2026x with SysML v2, ready when you log in. No license, no install, nothing for your IT team to approve.

A checkpoint after every lab

Fall behind or miss a lab and you load the checkpoint model and keep going.

The finished model

Leave with a complete Robot Mower model you built yourself, from needs to physical architecture.

Certificate of completion

Issued at the end of the course, for your training records.

Remote or in person

Same instructor, labs and hours. In person adds help at your seat and time with engineers from other companies.

Private team training

Moving a whole team to SysML v2?

We run this course privately for your engineers, remote or at your site, on the dates that fit your program. Groups that want one of the public weeks above can have it, and groups of 8 or more get a group discount.

  • Your engineers, your schedule
  • Examples tuned to your domain on request
  • Pair it with consulting for your first v2 model

From our students

200+ engineers trained

I really enjoyed the course and learned a lot! I'm also really glad that you all went through the purpose of each lab, that was really helpful.
Miriam Meller · SysML v1 Fundamentals
The real-world insights and explanations you shared helped me gain a much deeper understanding of both MBSE and the Systems Engineering discipline as a whole.

Questions

Before you register

Do I need to know SysML v1 first?

No. The course starts from the foundations. If you do know v1, we map each concept you use to its v2 form as we go.

Which tool do we use?

Cameo Systems Modeler 2026x with SysML v2, also sold as CATIA Magic, in our cloud lab. You don't need your own license or an install.

Is SysML v2 ready for real programs?

SysML v2 is an adopted OMG standard, and tool support is arriving release by release. Many programs are piloting v2 while their production models stay in v1. In class you see exactly what works in Cameo today.

What is SysML v2 Advanced Topics?

A new 1-day, 6-hour course that goes beyond Fundamentals, on the Thursday of the June and October weeks. We publish the full outline before the June class. Take it with v2 Fundamentals and save $300 per remote seat ($250 in person).

Standard or condensed: what's the difference?

The same 18 hours and the same labs. Standard runs 3½ days (Monday to Thursday noon). Condensed runs 3 full days, leaving Thursday for Advanced Topics.

Can we pay with a purchase order or SF-182?

Yes. We accept purchase orders, SF-182 training forms, ACH, check and card (card adds 3%). Payment is due in full before the first class day. CameoMagic is registered in SAM (CAGE 10EH9).

What if I need to cancel or move my seat?

30 or more days before class: move to any other class for free, take your full tuition as a credit toward another class or consulting hours, or cancel for a full refund minus a $500 deposit. Less than 30 days before class, tuition is non-refundable. If we cancel a class, you get a full refund.

How does in person work?

Request an in-person seat and we confirm it 30 days before class, once 4 people have signed up. If the room doesn't fill, join remotely at the remote price or use your tuition as credit for 1-on-1 training.

Pick your week.

The next public SysML v2 class starts March 29, 2027. Register for a remote seat now, or ask us about a private class for your team.
