What's on the exam

Six topic areas, weighted very unevenly

OMG publishes the weight of each area and the SysML v2 specification clauses behind it. Questions use natural language plus SysML v2 textual and graphical notation, so you need to read both.

Requirements are only 5%.On the v1 Model User exam, requirements and use cases are 14%. On v2 they are 8% together. Don't spend your study time where the questions aren't.
Definition vs usage is the whole language.Most v2 questions come down to it: a part def is the reusable definition, and a part is its usage in a context. Get this solid first.

Try three sample questions

Can you read SysML v2 textual notation?

We wrote these in the style of the exam. They are not real exam questions, which are confidential. If you can answer all three and explain why, you understand the core ideas the exam is built on.

Foundations · definition and usage

part def Vehicle {
    part engine : Engine;
    part wheels : Wheel[4];
}
part def Engine;
part def Wheel;

Which of these is a usage?

  1. Vehicle
  2. Engine
  3. wheels
  4. Wheel
Show the answer

C. wheels. part def declares a definition, so Vehicle, Engine and Wheel are definitions. part wheels : Wheel[4] declares a part usage typed by the Wheel definition, with a multiplicity of 4.

Behavior · actions and succession

action def MowLawn {
    action startBlades;
    action cutGrass;
    action returnToDock;
    first startBlades then cutGrass;
    first cutGrass then returnToDock;
}

Which statement is true?

  1. All three actions can start at the same time
  2. returnToDock can't start until cutGrass has ended
  3. cutGrass is an action definition
  4. startBlades runs after returnToDock
Show the answer

B. first a then b is a succession: b can start only after a has ended. The three actions are usages inside the MowLawn definition, so C is wrong.

Structure · ports and conjugation

item def Fuel;
port def FuelPort {
    out item fuel : Fuel;
}
part tank   { port supply : FuelPort; }
part engine { port intake : ~FuelPort; }

Which way does fuel flow through engine.intake?

  1. out
  2. in
  3. inout
  4. Ports have no direction
Show the answer

B. in. The ~ conjugates FuelPort, which reverses the direction of its directed features. The tank sends fuel out through supply, and the engine receives it through intake.

Three ways to prepare

Study on your own, learn it live, or prepare as a team

The practice exam is the fastest way to find your gaps. The course teaches the language by building a full model in it. Teams usually combine the two.

v1 or v2?

How the v2 Model User exam compares with OCSMP Model User

The two are separate certification series, and OCSMP certificates are not replaced. OMG’s advice is to start with the series that matches the SysML version your organization uses. Most programs still run v1 today: see our v1 exam prep bundles.

Questions

SysML v2 certification questions

Is there a SysML v2 certification?

Yes. OMG launched its SysML v2 certification program on June 2, 2026. The first exam is SysML v2 Model User. Model Builder Fundamental is in development, with release expected in 2027, and Model User will be its prerequisite.

How many questions are on the exam, and how long is it?

90 questions in 150 minutes, or 180 minutes outside native English-speaking countries. Question types are single response, multiple response, hotspot and matching.

What is the passing score?

63 of 90 correct, which is 70%. That's higher than the SysML v1 Model User exam, which needs 56 of 90 (62%).

How much does it cost, and where do I take it?

$400 plus any taxes. You book and pay through Pearson VUE, then take it online or at a secure test center. OCSMP certificate holders get a discount. If you fail, your score report includes a 20% discount code for the retake.

Are there prerequisites?

No. Anyone can take the Model User exam.

Do I need to pass OCSMP first?

No. The SysML v2 series is separate from OCSMP and doesn't replace it. You can start with either, based on the SysML version your organization uses.

Does the exam use textual notation?

Yes. Questions use natural language and both SysML v2 notations, textual and graphical. Practice reading both.

How long is the certification valid?

3 years from the exam date. Taking the same or a higher-level exam extends it.

Do I need Cameo to prepare?

No. The exam doesn't test a tool. Our course uses Cameo Systems Modeler 2026x because building a model is the fastest way to learn the language, and a cloud VM login is included, so you don't need a license.

Is CameoMagic an OMG-accredited training provider?

No. We are independent and not affiliated with OMG. Our own instructors write our materials from the published SysML v2 specification and OMG's exam coverage map.

CameoMagic is an independent company. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Object Management Group. SysML and OMG are trademarks of the Object Management Group.
